Whats the big deal with the “Secrets to fishing?”?

All you do is throw a piece of bait down with a hook and wait for somethign to bite and then pull it up. How many different ways can you do it? why is there a “Secret to fishing?”

The secret is that there is much more to fishing than just drowning worms and waiting for some hungry fish to eat a dead worm so you can take home a fish dinner.
Fact is most fisherman fish because it is challenging. The greater the challenge the bigger the reward.
The way you describe fishing reminds me of the way my uncle used to deer hunt. Just drive down the road to the deer crossing sign, wait for some unsuspecting deer to head across the road and then BAM! Hit ‘em with a Buick!
Catching fish with artificial bait and flies requires a good deal of skill acquired only after lots of practice and correcting mistakes.
Maybe you could take a look at some of the fishing shows and competitions on cable TV to gain an appreciation for the time, effort and expense anglers put into catching huge numbers or huge weights of fish. Or rent the movie “A River Runs Through It” and see for yourself how a fly fisherman is truly an artist at mimicking a nymph with feathers, hackle and a hook in order to lure a feeding trout into biting.
The sport of fishing offers much to learn and much to pass on to anyone that loves and respects nature.
