Myrtle beach fishing Question?

Headed down to MB in april. Never surf fished but want to try. I have pier fished but want to try surf fishing. Would like to catch some 4 ft sharks if thats possible. I need to know equipment and bait. I dont want to go over $200 between line, pole, and reel. Im on a budget. I know there are whiting that time of year. Would that work as bait? if so how do I rig it. Thanks!

Get your local tackle shop to spool you some, (at least 250 yards) of Power Pro 40-50 LB, (this has the same diameter as 12-14LB Mono) line.

For 4Ft PLUS Shark fishing??

Use either a 4FT heavy (30-40LB) wire leader OR 50-100LB Mono. 8/0-10/0 Stainless Circle hook. 4-6OZ Pyramid weight, (depending on wave conditions).

Shark Bait?? Large Mullet heads, 12-15″ piece of Spanish Mackerel or Bonito, Or whole 15″ Mullet cut to bleed.

Time?? Your best times to go are right before dark. Chumming an area will draw larger Shark. (Just don’t chum an area where swimmers frequent.)

Understand- The outfit I suggested is perfect for targeting big game off the beach. It will NOT be perfect for targeting smaller Gamefish. If you want a more “compromising”, versatile outfit downsize the reel and rod, (and bait). Think about going with a Baitrunner type reel……
